Who are we?

We are an educational consultancy specialising in literacy.

What do we do?

Core Values

We lead our young writers to authorship—guiding them to write what matters with precision, sincerity, and a personal voice.

We nurture intrinsically motivated learners who strive to write well because they have something meaningful to say. Writing should be an authentic process, where student voice is at the heart of composition.

For us, writing is not just about mastering skills—it is a form of behaviour. As William F. Irmscher explains:
“Writing is overcoming inhibitions, getting started, controlling, matching words to thoughts—feeling as well as thinking.”

Vision: The Child - The Heart of the Matter

We meet young writers where they are at, tailoring our explicit teaching to support their next steps.

The child is at the heart of everything we do. Our teaching decisions are guided by what the young writer has to say, who they want to say it to (audience and purpose), and how they can say it best (text forms). We aim for all our young writers to discover the power of their own voices, to say, "This is what I know, this is what I believe, and this is who I am."

As ERO states: "Ko te Tamaiti te Pūtake o te Kaupapa – The Child, the Heart of the Matter."

About Biblio Consulting

Inspired by the globally successful model of The Reading and Writing Workshops, and responsive to the curriculum, context, and student needs of each unique learning community, we focus on harnessing the cultural capital of students to improve literacy outcomes for all, particularly those at risk of underachieving.

My Journey

Verity has been working with schools—leaders, teachers, and students—across New Zealand for over 5 years. Prior to that, she had been a Literacy Leader for 15 years, across the primary sector in both the UK and New Zealand. After three years of professional development with Gail Loane and Sally Muir, and completing further study, she recognised a better way of providing for students—an approach to teaching and learning that genuinely places the child at the heart of the matter and produces life-long writers—of both teachers and students.

Bespoke Packages

Because each setting is as unique as the students we teach, our packages are tailor-made and responsive to the specific needs of the learning community. Choose from a variety of options designed to suit your unique requirements.
